Trying to put your new overhead garage door together? Dont get frustrated. Installing an overhead garage door can seem like a headache at first, but if youre patient, work slowly, and enlist a friend for help, this wont be too difficult. First, the lower door panel needs to be set up in the center of the doorway. The remaining panels and tracks are held in place with hinges, brackets, and screws. Set up an easy-to-install torsion spring system to ensure that your door lifts properly for many years to come, and youre good to go. Well walk you through the steps and explain the nuances involved here.
Weather Proofing And Sealing
The door is installed and youre patting yourself on the back for a job well done. The tension is so well adjusted and the door so well aligned that you could lift and close it with your pinky. Youve nearly completed the install, but dont forget to finish off your hard work with proper weatherproofing and sealing.
Begin by trimming out the door with one-inch thick strips of cedar. Attach plastic weather seal to the side of the cedar trim, then install the trim around the inside perimeter of the opening.
This will decrease the width of the opening by two inches, so make sure to take this into account when calculating the width requirements for your shed door. The weather seal should rest against the door, creating a weather-tight fit between the door and the door opening.

What Is A Roll

If youve ever rented a storage unit, then you probably know the answer to this question. Roll up doors are the corrugated metal doors that roll upward in the same fashion as a garage door.
Only, unlike a standard garage door, which is comprised of metal or wood panels that follow a track up into the ceiling of the garage, the roll up door, well, rolls up. When raised, it wraps around a large cylinder that is mounted on the ceiling just above the entrance of your shed.

How To Measure For Roll Up Door
Begin by determining what size door you want. After purchasing the door, refer to the manufacturers installation instructions to determine the required rough opening needed to install the door.
Generally speaking, most doors will be about an inch bigger than your opening so that the door will overlap your frame with the guide rails mounting to the face of the frame. Of course, consult the manufacturers instructions to ensure a proper fit.
Some manufacturers will custom cut the door to fit any rough opening. If you plan on using one of these companies, frame your rough opening, then measure the width of the opening at its widest point.
You will also want to make sure you have enough clearance around the door to install the vertical track. Check the doors specifications to determine how much clearance is needed.
Remember, you will also need clearance above the door. Check the manufacturers clearance requirements for the door you plan to use then measure the space between the top of your sheds rough opening and its ceiling to make sure it will fit.
If you plan on installing a paneled roll up door, then measure back room to make sure you will have enough space to store the door when it is rolled up. Back room is the distance from the door opening to the back wall of the shed.

Why Install A Garage Door By Yourself
According to Fixr.com, installing a roll-up door may cost $750 to $3000. Most homeowners end up paying over $900 on average for a roll-up garage door installation because it takes two people to complete the job. The more complex the job, if its the double garage door.
Similarly, installing a roll-up garage door made from wood, glass, fiberglass, or composite cost more because youd need to handle the material with care. Installing a wooden roll-up door for an 8 x 7 door may cost from $1000 to $3500.
Overall, its a good idea to install or remove the door by yourself to make the entire process pocket-friendly. You can always ask a friend or a family member to help you with the doors installation or removal.

Residential Roll Up Doors
With more homeowners seeking to use their garage space as a functional home office or gym, there has been an increased interest in security and theft prevention for the garage. A growing problem of theft of catalytic converters and luxury automobiles in the GTA has added urgency to this trend.
Our made-to-order roll-up garage doors and roll-up shed doors provide a significantly higher level of security than traditional overhead garage doors. Every rolling door that we design and install acts to secure your home against theft and break-ins.
A higher level of security-minded design:
- Single metal plane with strong locking mechanism. Non-hinged design with bolt-lock or mechanical lock means far fewer points for intruders to attempt break-ins – compared to older model garage doors
- Interlocking steel panels & fastened seal with the garage floor. The strong metal panels meet flush with the floor and simply won’t budge when sealed and locked
