Changing The Batteries In Your Garage Door Remote
Dead batteries are the #1 cause for garage door remotes not working. The lifespan of garage door remote batteries is about two years, depending on how often your garage door is going up and down. Another factor is what type of garage door remote and battery youre using.
One of the telltale signs that your garage door remote is running low on juice is that you have to click it several times for it to successfully open your garage door. So lets take a closer look at what kind of garage door remote batteries there are and how to change them.
Step 1: Opening Your Garage Door Remote
Chances are you wont need any tools to open the back cover of your garage door remote. At most you may need a Phillips-head screwdriver or smaller, but with newer remotes that is highly unlikely. Start by turning the garage door remote over. There you should see a cover that can be removed. Slide the cover down with your thumb to expose the battery housing. If no back cover is visible, it may be that the entire remote pops in half at the seam and splits into two pieces. Best case scenario you have an owners manual to show you exactly how to open the garage door remote.
Step 2: Identify the Battery or Batteries
Step 3: Replace Batteries and Reprogram Your Garage Door Remote
How Do I Reset My Genie Garage Door Keypad Without A Pin

How do you reprogram a Genie Intellicode keypad?
Fully close the cover to reset the keypad. To reprogram this keypad, fully open the cover until its latched. Next, simultaneously press the numbers 3,5 and 7, then press the program button. When the red light blinks, enter your personal identification number and then press the program button again. Close the cover fully.

What Colors Do The Sensors On Genie Garage Doors Need To Be

If the receiving eye is solidly lit in red, it means that everything is okay. The signal is being transmitted.
If it isn’t red, try to inspect the wiring leading to the motor head. Check the operator logic board first and then the photo eye to see if it is corroded or damaged.
The receiving eye will be completely red if the send signal is being received and everything is in working condition. If it is blinking or not on, there is an issue.
If so, it’s important to check the wiring to see if its incorrect. The signal is being suppressed or the transmitting eyes are broken if it blinks. Examine the sending eye and motor wires as you might need to clean the lens.
