cableguy said:I would appreciate advice from someone who has successfully programmed their garage door opener on the 2016 Q3. There were no instructions with my car so my broker and the dealer gave me a link to a video and the homelink website.

cableguy said:Also – my broker said there was something in the MMI settings and I see that there is on some audis – at least per the video on the usa audi website. But I don’t find a homelink option in my MMI. I also don’t see a subwoofer listed on the tone controls yet I have the bose 14 speaker system with subwoofer. there is only a base and treble no subwoofer.

cableguy said:Thanks – that’s the way it was programmed on my wife’s new Subaru and hey, they even put instructions in the car that matched the actual process – imagine that. It appears that both my broker and his dealer partner were full of…..ah bad advice….pointing me to instructions for the systems that are integrated and it also appears that Audi doesn’t have their act together by having on-line instructions or a hand-out in the car that matches the system installed. Wow….

  • #reprogramming A Rolling Code System

To reprogramme a rolling code system for an Audi Q5, firstly check the instructions manual. It will indicate whether the device is a rolling code or a fixed code.

If the manual is missing, you can also try the steps outlined in the video below. When youve completed these steps, you should have the in-car transmitter programmed to the device.

Then, wait 30 seconds before pressing the learn button. If it flashes rapidly for two seconds, you have successfully programmed the system.

Once youve paired the two devices, test them by pressing the learn andreplace buttons on the control box. The door should respond to the code, but you may need to press the buttons multiple times.

In the event that the keypad is in the wrong place, repeat the steps described above. This should fix the problem. But if you havent, dont worry, there are still other ways to reprogramme a rolling code system for an Audi Q5.

How To Program An Audi Homelink

Audi HomeLink lets you effortlessly close and open your garage door. Setting up HomeLink takes a moment, but its an easy process. Heres how to setup Audi HomeLink for your vehicle and garage door opener.

The Two Types of Garage Door Openers

There are two kinds of garage door openers: fixed-code and rolling-code openers. Fixed code openers always use the same code to communicate with a vehicle or remote while rolling code openers use a different code each time the garage door is opened or closed.

The type of garage door opener will affect the final steps of programming your door to Audi HomeLink. You dont have to know what kind of opener you have before beginning the programming process, though. If youd like, you can look up whether you have a fixed- or rolling-code opener in your garage door openers manual. If youd prefer, you can simply start programming Audi HomeLink.

How to Program Your Audi HomeLink

To program your Audi HomeLink, follow these steps:

  • Press and hold Buttons I and III for 20 seconds, at which point the LED indicator will slowly flash.
  • Press and hold the HomeLink Button that youd like to program until the LED indicator slowly flashes again.
  • With your remote, walk to the front of your vehicle and point it towards the driver side front bumper, holding it between 3 and 18 inches away from the bumper.
  • Once your vehicles hazards blink three times, once again press and hold the button youre programming .
  • Press the learn or smart button on the opener.
  • What To Do If Your Homelink Light Doesnt Come On:

If youre like me and the LED on the visor doesnt light up at all, then the system isnt getting power. First, check the fuses fuse #16 is for the Homelink/garage door opener. If that fuse looks fine, then the other weak point is the wiring in the drivers side fender it is prone to breaking as it gets very brittle and rubs against hard plastic. This was indeed the issue with mine and many other B7s judging by this thread on Audizine. Jack up the front drivers side and remove the wheel, then using a T25 bit remove the fender liner enough to access the area just above the upper control arms and slightly closer to the drivers side . Once you expose the wire, youll likely see it is frayed or cut altogether as was my case. Simply connect these wires back together and voila, youre all set.
