To program a built-in-car transmitter to a rolling code garage door opener , you should take the following steps.

  • Clear out anything previously programmed into the in-car system from the factory by holding down on the 2-outside buttons simultaneously, until the in-car LED starts flashing rapidly. This may take up to a minute .
  • Go to the Learn Button on your garage door opener. The button is usually next to the area where the floppy antenna is connected to the motorhead. With Genie, it is most often behind the light lens, and an indicator light flashes red when pressed. With Sears or Liftmaster it is near, or part of, the terminal screw board, and is a red, green, or purple square button with a green, amber or purple indicator light. Press this learn button momentarily. The indicator light will turn on and blink if Genie or otherwise stay lit. For Genie systems, go back to the in-car transmitter button you programmed and press this button 3 or 4 times, or until the door starts moving. This should set your in-car transmitter to your garage door opener. For Liftmaster, Sears, or Linear Megacode press and hold the in-car button you programmed until the garage opener light flashes. Your in-car is now programmed to operate your door.

The Door Code in the Step-By-Step Procedure at right is determined by the internal code switches inside your transmitter and the accompanying chart. Determine the settings of the first 3 switches and write down the corresponding number from the chart.   • Reset Keypadslide keypad cover half way up. While pressing the # and 8 buttons simultaneously, slide the Keypad Cover the rest of the way up until it latches. Release # and 8 buttons. At this point, if the back lit keypad light stays on, proceed directly to step 2. If the back lit keypad light goes out, close the cover pad and reopen it until it clicks. Proceed to step 2.
  • Press 3, 5, 7 and # buttons in said order.
  • Enter your PIN and press the # button. Your PIN number can be created from any group of numbers up to 8 digits of your choice. Note: Do NOT use# or star key.

    LiftMaster MAX remotes work with all 315 MHz or 390 MHz LiftMaster garage door openers manufactured since January 1993 . Follow these steps to program the various MAX models.

  • Locate the “Program” button on your garage door opener or keypad. On the 890MAX and 895MAX remotes, locate the “Program” button and press it using a safety pin or paper clip until the LED on the front of the remote control turns on. It will then be ready to program. On the 893MAX remote, locate the “Program” button on the back of the device located under the visor clip. Press the button to activate it. On the 877MAX keyless entry keypad, press the * and # buttons simultaneously until the lighted keys stop flashing and remain on steady. Note that when the controller is in programming mode, you need to program one button at a time.
  • Press and release the button on the remote control that you wish to program.
  • Wait for the remote control LED to stop blinking, then slowly press and release the button again. Repeat until the light bulb blinks. Dont press the button after the light bulb blinks as this will prompt the remote to transition into a different setting, rendering it inoperable. If you do press the button, you will need to go through the steps again from the beginning.
  • Once the light bulb blinks, press any other button on the remote control.
  • To program other buttons on the remote control, repeat steps one to four.
