Three of the five controllers I evaluatedincluding the Chamberlain MyQ modeldont work with these openers, which were made by the Chamberlain Group and sold under the Chamberlain, LiftMaster, and Craftsman brands in the U.S. between 2010 and 2021.

The only controllers that will work with these openers are the Meross MSG100 and the Tailwind IQ3 model , which can be purchased with special adapters for these openers. Tailwind includes them at no additional cost.

I reached out to the Chamberlain Group to learn more about this odd group of openers, and a spokesperson told me they use photoelectric sensors with an energy conservation feature where the sensor lights would shut off after the garage door had been closed for some time. The feature has since been removed from all Chamberlain, LiftMaster, and Craftsman openers.

This is both a blessing and a drawback, depending on how you feel about notifications. But it does mean you could miss a notification and end up leaving your door wide open. An effective workaround is to set the door to close automatically.

Tailwinds notifications are not as customizable as those from competing controllers. For example, you cant set a specific notification if the door is opened between, say, 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on a Thursday. This may be a non-issue for many people, but wed like to see it as an option.

As CRs smart-home reporter, Im no stranger to working with connected devices. I live with them, too. In my own home, Ive installed about 70 smart home devicesPhilips Hue smart lightbulbs, Samsung water leak detectors, and an LG smart refrigerator, to name a few. When It Works I Love It But

I use Aladdin Connect to control 3 new Genie openers. When this app works, I like it very much and it can be very useful. However, in the week or so that Ive been using it, various repeating app errors cause me to question its reliability. I have a reliable wifi mesh system with a wifi AP in my garage about 15 feet away. This AP has a strong connection back to the rest of the mesh. All the door sensors have line-of-sight to the Aladdin DCM. Approximately 75% of the time the app works as advertised. But for the other 25% of the time, 3 app errors tend to reoccur. The most prevalent error is cluster_max_load, next is a generic something went wrong dialog and finally occasionally all my doors temporarily disappear from the app. The app does not work at all when any of these 3 errors occur. Even when the app is functional, it often continues to show that a door is still in the process of completing a request 3-5 minutes after successfully opening or closing a door. As things currently stand, Im not confident that this app will work when I really need it.Update: now all my door activity history is missing along with all my configuration Emailed support 24 hours ago and am awaiting their reply.
