How Do I Reset My Genie Garage Door Sensor

The Safe-T-Beam are safety sensors on the Genie garage door opener that shine an invisible infrared beam across the garage door. The system is being obstructed during the closing cycle and automatically reverses the garage door to the fully open position.

Obstructions could be anything from your kids arm to dirt on the tracks, magnetic garage door decorations, or a stray cable powering your Christmas decorations.

The LED lights on both sensors will have a steady glow when installed and aligned correctly. The red light on the sending sensor will always glow regardless of alignment as long as it receives power. However, if the green light on the receiving sensor is dim, flickers, or off, alignment is necessary. Follow the steps below.

  • Remove the receiving sensor from the bracket by tasking off the fastening nuts.
  • Face the sensor away from the sensor, and the light will turn off.
  • Wait for 10 seconds, and slowly turn the sensor back to its position. Align the sensor with the sending sensor until the green light glows steadily. Insert the sensor into the bracket, readjust it and then tighten the screws.
