First, verify that the trolley is against the stop bolt.

Release the door from the opener by pulling the Emergency Release Rope.

Manually bring the door to a closed position.

Unplug the opener, then loosen the chain by adjusting the outer nut 4 to 5 turns. Loosen stop bolt a few turns. This relieves the tension.

Run the motor unit from the remote control or door control. The trolley should travel towards the door and stop. If the trolley re-engages with the door, pull the Emergency Release Rope to disengage.

Re-tighten the outer nut, so the chain is 1/2 above the base of the rail.

If the trolley does not move away from the bolt, repeat the steps above.

If the trolly is not on the stop bolt and makes a loud humming noise and doesnt lift/ lower the door, the gear and sprocket assembly could be worn out. Call for service.

An Overview On Garage Door Openers

Without a garage door opener, youd have to manually lift the door every time you needed access, which would be especially annoying if you parked your car in there. A garage door opener is a modern convenience many people take for granted. If your home has an opener already, chances are it was already there when you bought the house. But you dont have to wait until it malfunctions to replace it. In fact, you may find that you can upgrade to a quieter, more efficient model that offers capabilities you dont currently have.

If youve decided you need a new garage door opener, though, where do you start?

Determining horsepower should be the first step in picking out a garage door opener, says Vicki Liston, our home improvement expert and the host of On The FlyDIY, an award-winning show with unique project tutorials. Too much HP and you are wasting a lot of money. Too little and you run the risk of tearing up the motor. The goal is to find the right balance.

She suggests that you may need just 1/3 HP for lightweight single-car garage doors. Light-weight double-car garage doors work most efficiently with 1/2 HP. If you have a door made with a heavier material such as wood, try 3/4, 1 or even 1 1/4 HP or HPc . Basically, the weight and size of your door determine your power needs.

Once youve decided about drive type, its time to delve into the optional features, which make buying a garage door opener a bit more fun.

Q: What Are The Benefits Of Craftsman Garage Door Openers

Craftsman 1/2 hp Belt Drive WiFi Compatible Smart Garage Door Opener ...

A: Following are the major benefits of the Craftsman garage door openers:

    Convenience

Imagine a scenario in which you have just returned from the grocery store. Would you prefer opening the garage door from the comfort of your car via remote control?

Of course, you would. Especially when the other option would be for you to leave your car, walk to the garage door, and manually open it. Thats how garage door openers add convenience to your life.

    Security

Make sure you get a garage door opener with rolling codes. These devices change their built-in password every time you press the remote button, meaning only you can access your garage.

Another great option that some garage door sensors provide is Vacation mode. Activating it will disable the remote and wont let anyone open the door from outside, thereby keeping thieves and burglars at bay.

    Lighting

One great feature that most modern garage door openers come with is built-in lighting. They have small LEDs dotting the entire upper strip of the opener that would otherwise have lay vacant.

This type of lighting can be invaluable, especially if theres no street lighting in front of your home. It will also come handy in bad weather or during the long winter nights.

    Safety

One study has found that garage door openers pose a risk of death or severe brain injury to children. The danger is realized when children walk past malfunctioning openers and are crushed by them.

Locate the Learn button on the garage door opener. Most probably it will be on the back side. Press the button for a few seconds and then release it.

Once youve done that, youll see that the button will light up for half-a-minute. Dont do anything as the button keeps glowing. Wait for the light to die down.
