What Is The Cheapest Way To Cover A Concrete Floor
When choosing a concrete flooring material, one of the first things to consider is the cheapest way to cover it. With so many options on the market, it can be difficult to know which one is right for your project
. Here are three tips to help you make the best decision: 1. Do your research before beginning a project! Before investing in any new flooring material, its important to do your research and compare prices between different brands and types of covers.
This will help you choose the most affordable option that will meet your specific needs. 2. Consider what type of concrete surface you want to cover! If you want a smooth surface that wont show wear and tear over time, choose hardwood or marble as your flooring material.
What Factors Affect The Price
Simply put, the price of a flooring installation will vary because no two garages are alike. So, here are some things that can affect the cost of coating your garage floor.
- Size The bigger the garage, the more product we need to apply. This is usually the biggest pricing factor.
- Condition If your garages concrete floor needs to be repaired before we coat it, it can affect the price.
- Moisture If moisture is penetrating your slab from the soil below, it can make it difficult for a successful install.
- Stairs & Apron If were coating more than just the main garage floor, that can up the price a bit, too.
You can see that because every garage is different, every installation will be too. The important thing is to schedule a free, no-obligation consultation with one of our Garage Gurus to discuss your dream garage needs. After youre done, you wont get an estimate youll get an exact quote, in writing, down to the penny.
Apply The Epoxy Floor Coating
Now that your floor is clean and the patch and repair have had time to dry its time to apply the floor epoxy. For this, I recommend using Rust-oleum Epoxyshield Professional Semi-Gloss Floor Coating Kit.
Side Note: Make sure you have all of your tools ready as the epoxy has to be used once it is mixed together.
Here are some basic steps to follow.
- Mix the epoxies seperately and then roll part B into part A to break the inner seal and mix the two liquids together.
- Next you will need to let the epoxy sit to achieve the proper induction time. Follow the directions on the product you are using. Dont cut open the bag until youve met this time limit.
- Cut a corner of the bag and pour the mixed liquid into a paint tray for easy use.
- Using a small paint brush do the perimeter of the wall in 4 by 4 sections
- Next use a long handled paint roller and finish the first 4 by 4 section
- As each 4 by 4 section is complete add the decrative color chips by throwing small handfuls of them over the area.
- Continue this process starting in the back of the garage and working your way to the front till the floor is completely done.
- Finally, let it dry for 24 hours

It Can Stick To The Wrong Places
Letâs say you park your car on it during a sweltering summer day. All that heat, plus the weight of your vehicle, can cause some of the epoxy to peel up with your tires when you leave. Hot-tire pickup is a massive cause for failure with epoxy. Your option, buy rubber mats and cover up your pretty floor. Polyurea chemically bonds with your concrete, sending roots deep within the concrete. Literally, the concrete pulls up in an adhesion test. Seriously.
I Epoxy Flooring Cost
Epoxy is probably the single most popular option for commercial flooring, and for good reason: its one of the least expensive per sq ft options you can pick, while still providing superior long-term value.
Epoxy flooring can potentially be as inexpensive as $2.50 per square foot, when youre buying in bulk to cover several thousand square feet. Even on a smaller-scale job, youre typically only looking at $8 per square foot on the higher end, and thats for high-grade epoxy. This makes it easily the best all-around value in resinous flooring.
That said, epoxy coatings are not without faults. As an all rounder, its not suited for some specific applications. Also, epoxy is hard, but brittle it can be damaged by falling objects, especially those with sharp points. While damage remains localized, repairs require laying down another layer of epoxy.
You must also consider the cost to install epoxy flooring. Epoxy floor coatings take a long time to cure. While its technically walkable within 12-18 hours of being laid down, it really should not be used for 48-72 hours for best effect. This may significantly add to the real-world costs of the floor installation, if your business has to shut down for a weekend at least while it cures.

Garage Floor Site Prep Cost
Site preparation is an additional cost that the epoxy company will charge you if you want them to remove your belongings and clear out your garage. You can cut some cost by scheduling appropriately and giving yourself time to clear your garage yourself. Depending on how early you clear your garage or how long your epoxy professional recommends you dont use your garage floor, you will likely need a place to store all the items you housed in your garage.
When taking on this project dont forget to factor in how much it will cost to rent a storage unit for your belongings. Depending on the size of the storage unit needed, rentals can cost between $20 to $450 per month.
Price To Hire Contractor To Epoxy 3
EDIT: Updated Information Below
For an epoxy system expect something in the neighborhood of $4-$5 a square foot. This should include a primer coat, base color coat, color flakes, and a coat or two of a high performance clear. This article here explains some of the question you should be asking.
At those prices that is def not a high end system. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TOYSTRY said:Based on your numbers, it would cost $2,880 $3,600 for 720 sq ft which seems astronomically high to epoxy a standard 3-car garage. Am I missing something here?See above comment……..$2,880 – $3,600 seems ridiculously high. How would those prices come about? Based on the contractor that I spoke to, he will spend 2-3 hrs per day at the house working. Day 1 would be diamond grinding, Day 2 first coat, Day 3 second coat and flakes, Day 4/5 epoxy coating. At $100 an hour labor, with 15hrs invested, you’re at $1500 . Add $800 worth of material, which seems to be the average price for a DIY kit, and you’re at $2,300 unless I’m missing something BIG in my equation.Help me out before I make a BAD decision…the guy has great reviews by the way. He’s also willing to let me pay once the work is completed vice a deposit up front since I had some initial concerns based on the feedback the two of you provided.

How Many Square Feet Is A 3 Car Garage
The exact size of a 3 car garage will vary depending on the size of the cars and how much storage space you need. Generally speaking, a 3 car garage should be somewhere between 600 and 900 square feet to fit three cars comfortably and allow for some storage.
For example, if each car is 18 feet long, you will need a minimum of 600 square feet, but if the cars are larger or you need additional storage space, the size may need to be closer to 900 square feet.
Volume Of Solids Content

Once you are confident that what youre actually purchasing is an epoxy coating and not just paint with epoxy added, the next thing you need to look for is the volume of solids content. This will appear as a percentage on the packaging.
The volume of solids content basically means the amount of coating that will remain on the floor when the curing reaction has taken place. At first glance, this suggests that 100% solids content is the best type of epoxy coating.
However, there are other considerations here. If you are determined to do the epoxy coating yourself, working with a 100% solids content coating will be close to impossible. The higher the percentage, the more difficult it is to work with.
Availability also comes into question here. 100% solids content coatings are really only standard for commercial spaces, so it makes sense that this concentration is more difficult to come by. As a homeowner with average DIY skills, its more probable that you will be sourcing your material from your local hardware store.
The typical concentrations that are available in hardware stores are usually somewhere around the 50% solids content mark, so this is most likely the percentage youll be working with. This kind of percentage is actually better for application, as its a lot like applying standard paint.

Maintenance Of Your Epoxy Coating
Your applied epoxy coating should last 1012 years if its well looked after and is subjected to normal wear and tear. Maintenance includes
- Wiping up all stains immediately or scrubbing them off with non-caustic cleaners
- Placing a mat inside the door into the garage from outside
- Regular mopping
- Epoxy coating can color under UV rays, so keep your garage door closed whenever possible.
What Are The Disadvantages Of Epoxy Flooring
Epoxy flooring can have a few disadvantages that should be considered before opting for this flooring solution. The most common issue with epoxy flooring is that it can be susceptible to staining or discoloration from certain substances and chemicals.
Additionally, epoxy flooring is not as durable or forgiving as other flooring options and can chip or peel if exposed to harsh chemicals or scuffs. Lastly, epoxy flooring is generally more expensive than other forms of flooring which could be a consideration, especially for large areas.
Some of the more common installations of epoxy include garages, hospitality settings, and commercial areas for these settings the benefits can outweigh the financial costs. All in all, it is important to consider the pros and cons of epoxy flooring before committing to the installation of this material.

Ii Urethane Flooring Cost
Urethane is typically more expensive than epoxy flooring but offers a few benefits over epoxy coatings for certain applications. In general, expect urethane to begin at $13-$19 per square foot for smaller jobs, and potentially go as low as $6-$10 per square foot for large-scale installations.
Why pay the extra money? There are three primary reasons.
First, urethane is not UV-reactive, unlike epoxy or MMA. So, if youre installing flooring in a place thats likely to receive a lot of sunlight, such as an office foyer, the extra cost will prevent fading over time. Epoxy or MMA floors will need to be replaced quickly if exposed to UV.
Also, urethane is less strong against crushing damage than epoxy, but it is more resilient. It resists scratching better than epoxy and is much less likely to be damaged by falling objects. This can lead to lowered repair and maintenance costs over time.
Finally, urethane can resist much lower temperatures than epoxy, and is strongly recommended for applications such as industrial freezers.

Is It Worth It To Have An Epoxy Garage Floor
The average cost of garage floor epoxy installations ranges from $1,500 to $3,000, which may be prohibitive for some customers. Epoxy floors, on the other hand, are a long-term asset that will last for many years, making the time and money well spent.
Depending on a few key factors, epoxy mats and floor sealants are significant investments that can be quite expensive:
- The amount of epoxy coats are used
- The area of the garage
- Individual rates for the contractor
- Additional ornamental elements
- The garages state prior to application
