If You Dont Have A Control Panel Use The Learn Button Inside Your Door Opener

If you dont have a control panel in your set-up, youll need to get up that ladder. Youll be using the learn button inside the door opener to program it.

Look for the learn button inside the opener. Remember that this is usually on the side or back wall of the door opener, near the wire antenna.

When youve found it, quickly press and release the learn button. The LED next to the button will come on.

Make sure you press and release quickly, and dont press and hold the button! Holding it down will clear the door openers memory. That means that no remote controls that have already been programmed will work, and youll have to start again.

Now move quickly onto step 7.

Programming A Remote Control With The Garage Door Opener

  • 1Find the Learn button on your garage door opener. The Learn button is how youll be programming your remote. Its located above the antenna wire that hangs from the garage door openers motorhead . It may be covered by a light cover, which youll need to remove to access it. Next to the Learn button is a small LED light, which is used to check the compatibility of the opener with remote controls.XResearch source
  • 2Check the LED light inside the opener for compatibility. The color of the LED light lets you know if your remote is compatible. The LED light next to the learn button tells you which radio frequency the garage door opener uses.     When you purchase a Genie ReliaG ProSeries 2028 garage door opener, you receive a remote control that has been conveniently pre-programmed to work with the opener. If you bought additional remote controls separately, or if you wish to re-program your remote, follow these steps.

    Keep in mind that each programming step has a 30-second time limit for completion, after which the step needs to be restarted. A step can be restarted as many times as needed.

  • If its a new remote, remove the batterys protective film by pulling it straight out.
  • Press and hold the program button for two seconds until the round LED turns blue, then release. Next the long purple LED will flash.
  • Press and release the remote button twice. The LEDs on the opener will flash, indicating it has been programmed to the remote.

    • Thats all there is to it. Press the button on the remote again and the garage door will open and close.

    To get started you will need to locate the program/learn button that is usually located on the back or

    side of the garage door opener motor. If you have trouble locating the program/learn button refer to

    the owners manual for your garage door opener.

    Programming to a garage door opener with a program/learn button:

    1. Start with your garage door closed.

    2. Press and hold the bottom button on the Chamberlain mini remote control for about 15

    seconds. The blue LED light should be solid illumination.

    3. Press and release the program/learn button on the back or side of your garage door opener

    one time. If you are programming at the wall button press the program/learn button 2 times.

    4. On the Chamberlain mini remote control press the button you wish to program 2 times. The

    blue LED light will start blinking. The remote is now sending preprogrammed codes to the

    garage door opener receiver. This can take up to 60 seconds.

    5. When the garage door begins to open immediately press either button on the Chamberlain

    mini remote control to confirm the code and exit the learn mode.

    6. Test the remote control by pressing the button on the Chamberlain mini remote control that

    you just programmed. If the garage door does not begin to move, repeat the listed steps.

    If youve invested in a Chamberlain garage door opener, you need to know how to program it.

    Overcome that hurdle, and you can open your garage door whenever you need to, at the push of a button. Never again worry about disturbing a sleeping child or juggling shopping bags to faff about with the garage door!

    But if youre feeling daunted, youve come to the right place! Were going to take you through how to program a Chamberlain garage door opener. And well take it one step at a time, so its easy as pie.

    Programming Instructions For Genie Remotes:

    Programming Genie Intellicode Remote Transmitters

  • Gently press and release the Receiver Learn Code button on the power head receiver of your door operator. This small, black, unmarked button is located behind the light lens at the motor head and is nearest the floppy 6 inch antenna wire that protrudes from the motor head. When pressed, a radio signal indicator light will start blinking red for 30 seconds. **
  • After pressing the Learn Code Button once, press your transmitter button three times for your system to grab the frequency and code it in.
  • Press the transmitter button once more to test the system and start your door moving.

    • **To erase all Intellicode remotes and wireless keyless entry, hold down on the learn button until the indicator light stops blinking, then proceed to Step 1.

    For Genie IntelliG, TriloG, SilentMax, PowerMax, GPower, and PowerLift Series Openers

    These include models 4024, 3024, 4042, 3042, 4022, 3022, and 4064, 3064, 4062, 3062, 2564, 2562. Looking up in your garage at the bottom of your Genie motor cover is a set of black buttons, depicted in the drawing below, along with two LED lights shown here in grey.

  • Press and hold down the square button on the motor head until the round blue LED light come on, then release the square button.
  • The long purple LED button will start to blink.
  • While the long LED is blinking, hold the remote 4 or 5 feet away and press 3, 4 or 5 times, until the door activates. Your remote is now programmed.

    Check That Your Remote Control Is Compatible With Your Door Opener

    Its important to remember that Chamberlain remote controls will work only with garage door openers made after 1993. And your garage door will also need photoelectric sensors.

    If youre not sure whether your door has those sensors, take a look at your door tracks. If theyre there, theyll be positioned at or near the bottom of the tracks. If your door opener uses a dip switch instead, a Chamberlain remote control wont work.

    Now check that your model of door opener will work with your remote control. To do this, you need to know the color of the learn button inside your door opener.

    Mount your ladder and remove the cover from the opener. The learn button is inside, usually on either the back or side panel, near where the antenna hangs down.

    Different models of openers will have learn buttons in different colors. Your remote control manual should tell you what color button is compatible. If youre still not sure, visit and check out the compatibility chart.

    If your remote control is compatible with your garage door opener, youre ready to move to step 2.

    Pro tip: You may be able to save yourself a trip up the ladder by looking for the wire antenna. This hangs down from the side of your door opener. If its yellow or purple, the learn button will be the same color. If the antenna is a different color, though, youll need to get out that ladder.

    How To Program A Liftmaster Max Remote Control

    How to Program Chamberlain’s 950CB and 953CB Remote Controls to a Garage Door Opener

    LiftMaster MAX remotes work with all 315 MHz or 390 MHz LiftMaster garage door openers manufactured since January 1993 . Follow these steps to program the various MAX models.

  • Locate the “Program” button on your garage door opener or keypad. On the 890MAX and 895MAX remotes, locate the “Program” button and press it using a safety pin or paper clip until the LED on the front of the remote control turns on. It will then be ready to program. On the 893MAX remote, locate the “Program” button on the back of the device located under the visor clip. Press the button to activate it. On the 877MAX keyless entry keypad, press the * and # buttons simultaneously until the lighted keys stop flashing and remain on steady. Note that when the controller is in programming mode, you need to program one button at a time.
  • Press and release the button on the remote control that you wish to program.
  • Wait for the remote control LED to stop blinking, then slowly press and release the button again. Repeat until the light bulb blinks. Dont press the button after the light bulb blinks as this will prompt the remote to transition into a different setting, rendering it inoperable. If you do press the button, you will need to go through the steps again from the beginning.
  • Once the light bulb blinks, press any other button on the remote control.

    • To program other buttons on the remote control, repeat steps one to four.
