Need Help Programming Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Replacement Klik3u
I just moved into this rental house in November and am trying to get a second garage door opener to work.
Theres an existing working KLIK3U-BK model, so I ordered a second one of those. But none of the programming instructions Ive tried work for me:
- The opener itself says press the learn button, then press & hold the remote button until the learn button blinks.
- Internet search shows press the learn button, then press & hold the remote button for 3 seconds then try the remote.
- A previous search said press the learn button then try the remote button 4 or 6 or 8 times and it will start to work depending on the model on one of those presses.
None of this works at all. Should I:
- wipe the programming of all remotes from the opener first? .
- Try a different model of the remote like the 953EV?
Any other ideas? Having one remote for 2 cars is cramping our style a bit

How To Tell If The Garage Sensor Is Damaged
There are five basic indicators of a damaged garage censor. If anything of these happens, you would not be able to do any basic programming, so it is best that you know all about these.
- Closing issues: Either it is not closing all the way, closing it is difficult or the garage door is reopening immediately after it is closed. If one of these occurs, your garage censor might need replacement. For first aid, check any obstructions in the track or see if anything is misaligned.
- There are two photo eye sensors in your garage door. One blinks green for sending signals and the other blinks red for receiving signal. If they are misaligned, no signal is sent or received. Heat exposure can also be a factor so check the angle to which the sun beams on the photo eyes.
- Sensor lenses: Chances are, your sensor lens is full of dirt and dust. When it does accumulate dirt, no signals would not be sent. So, clean those sensor lenses and see if it does the trick.
- Sensor power supply: If the two sensors indicating power supply are both off, it means that it is busted. Unplug the cable for safety purposes. Wait for the current to come back and try powering it up.
- Wire sensor damage: When the usually red lights blink orange, it is an indicator that your wire sensors are damaged. When this happens, consult a professional to fix it if they are broken. Straighten them up if they are just a bit twisted.

Check That Your Remote Control Is Compatible With Your Door Opener
Its important to remember that Chamberlain remote controls will work only with garage door openers made after 1993. And your garage door will also need photoelectric sensors.
If youre not sure whether your door has those sensors, take a look at your door tracks. If theyre there, theyll be positioned at or near the bottom of the tracks. If your door opener uses a dip switch instead, a Chamberlain remote control wont work.
Now check that your model of door opener will work with your remote control. To do this, you need to know the color of the learn button inside your door opener.
Mount your ladder and remove the cover from the opener. The learn button is inside, usually on either the back or side panel, near where the antenna hangs down.
Different models of openers will have learn buttons in different colors. Your remote control manual should tell you what color button is compatible. If youre still not sure, visit and check out the compatibility chart.
If your remote control is compatible with your garage door opener, youre ready to move to step 2.
Pro tip: You may be able to save yourself a trip up the ladder by looking for the wire antenna. This hangs down from the side of your door opener. If its yellow or purple, the learn button will be the same color. If the antenna is a different color, though, youll need to get out that ladder.

Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Motor Stuck
You may not be having trouble with the garage door openers that come with your Chamberlain garage door, but might be experiencing problems with the door itself. If you go to open or close your garage door and notice that noise is present, but no action ensues, a problem has certainly arisen. If you suspect that the motor is stuck on your Chamberlain garage door, continue reading below to see what you can do to get your door up and running again.
If your Chamberlain garage door opener is stuck, it could be that the trolly within the door is stuck against a bolt. When this happens, the door will not move, but sound will be heard as if it is trying. To unjam this, simply locate the trolly and tighten the screw it is hung on to give it space.
The bolt that the trolly most often gets hung up on is one that prevents the door from sliding too far towards the opening housing. If you find that it is difficult to get the bolt loose, try gently hammering it with a mallet to create enough space to get in there and dislodge it, then push or screw it out of the way a bit more. Once this is done, you can try to open or close your garage door with your opener once more to see if the motor is no longer stuck.
