Assess The Opening Force
A door with adequate closing and opening force should not reverse soon after touching the floor surface when closed. In order to assess the force, close the door of your garage from inside and check if the door lands tightly against the floor. If you notice the door reversing and raising up after touching the surface, you need to work on the closing force of the door.

The 2 Required Reversal Systems That Liftmaster Chamberlains Must Have
- System #1 Mechanical: If the lower section of a door comes in contact with an object, the motor will detect the obstruction and go back up.
- System #2 Photoelectric: There are two units that sit about six inches off the floor on either side of your garage door. One contains an infrared beam that you cannot see. The other is a receiver. If something is in the path of this beam while the door is shutting, the opener motor will automatically go back up and not close until the object is moved, and you shut the door again.

Make Adjustments To The Switch
Once you locate the limit switch that requires adjustment, use a flat head screwdriver to turn the knob. Turn it clockwise to increase travel distance and counterclockwise to decrease travel distance. One full turn of the screw typically equals approximately 2 of travel distance. So, as an example, if the garage door fails to close properly and there is a six-inch gap between where the door stops and the garage floor, you will likely have to turn the down knob three times clockwise to correct the problem.
You may need to test the garage door by opening, closing, and adjusting the knobs several times before getting it just right. Be aware, however, that most garage door openers have a sensor that will automatically shut off the motor if it overheats. That can occur if the garage door opens and closes multiple times in a row. If this happens, wait approximately 20 minutes and try again.
If you live in Madison, WI, or the surrounding areas, and this doesnt fix the problem, or you are having trouble adjusting the travel limits on your own, or contact Madison Local Garage Door Pros online to schedule your service today!

Types Of Travel Limit Switches
Adjustment Screws
Commonly found on most modern belt-driven and chain-driven garage door openers the travel limit adjustment screws are easily adjustable and usually found on the back or left-hand side of the garage door opener. The most common brands you will see this type of travel adjustment are LiftMaster and Chamberlain. You will either be able to see the up and down travel limit screws from ground level or might need to open up the security light cover to access. These adjustment screws will move metal contacts that will cut off the power to the motor at the desired down and up positions.
Switches
Travel switches can be found on brands such as the Genie screw drive garage door opener. This type of travel adjustment switch is located on the screw drive rail with one for the up position and one for the down position. These switches can be slid up or down the rail which will change the contact point with the trolley and thus change the up or down stop position of travel.

The Garage Door Wont Open Fully
Chamberlain garage door openers are equipped with a safety feature that halts the opener when it encounters resistance or obstruction. This prevents the motor inside the opener from overheating and eventually breaking down.
When your garage door is not opening all the way, it can be caused by an unbalanced garage door, damaged door tracks, jambs or rollers, wrong force settings, or travel limits. Now lets take a look at each of these and show you how to troubleshoot it.
Reprogram The Garage Door Opener
The first step in figuring out how to fix the garage door opener is to take the path of least resistance. The problem could be that the Chamberlain garage door opener remote is not working. You can fix it in a few simple steps.
First, check the batteries in the remote. If they are weak and close to being drained, it is likely the remote and the opener just isnt making a solid connection anymore. Replace the batteries with a fresh set and then reprogram the remote.
From there, youll put the remote back into learning mode. Once the remote is in learning mode, youll simply wait for the light to come on, and then begin to point the remote at the door opener. If you have additional remotes, its never a bad idea to reprogram them all at the same time.
Its very common to reprogram the garage door opener and then forget to reset the code on all of the remotes, which is why its best to do all of the remotes at the same time.

Check For Bent Rollers
If the chain is too loose, then its likely that one or more rollers are bent. For example, the roller may be bent if there was any damage to your garage door while it was being installed. You can fix a bent roller by pushing both ends of the roller back into alignment with a hammer and screwdriver. But be careful not to permanently bend the roller, as this could make it difficult or impossible for the chain elevator to pass over the roller.
Locating Travel Limit Switches
Adjustment Screws
If you have adjustment screws you will see 2 holes through the garage door housing. This is the part where the flashlight comes in handy as the screws are usually offset inside the housing and hard to see the screw slot position without a flashlight. You will see a picture of a garage door and a down arrow for the down position travel adjustment and a garage door with an up arrow for the up position travel adjustment.
Switches
If you have a switch type of travel adjustment you will see a small lever arm which extends down and mounted to the rail. Depending on the garage door position you will see the trolley contacting either the up or down travel position switch. The switch closest to the garage door opener is the up travel switch and one closest to the wall which is the down travel switch.

Seems like you either have your photo cells out of alignment or disconnect from operator or a short in the photo cells wires…. make sure the you can see the green LED light on one and a amber/red on the other at the same time with no flashing or flickering. The green represents power supply to units and other color represents alignment, both are a must! so make sure you see them on solid without blinking or flickering.
