    How To Construct The Rack

A bike rack on the drywall of your garage space will not just look good but also save you a lot of floor space, this aligns with our goals. The first thing that you need to do here is to find the wall studs with the stud finder behind the drywall. After finding the studs, you need to find a suitable place where you will install your bike rack, our suggestion would be to always go for the middle spot.

You have to know that as there are different bikes, there are also different bike racks. If you want to hang your mountain bike then you will need a bigger and stronger bike rack that will sustain the heavyweight. Make sure that you also have a proper and working drilling machine because you will have to drill through the drywall and into the studs, if you dont know how then we suggest that you have professional help with you or a buddy.

When you are done with the drilling part, you will have to attach the appropriate screws and then attach the bike rack. Make sure that it stays there on the wall before attaching your bike to it.

What’s The Best Way To Store A Road Bike On The Wall

    Garage Bike Rack Storage

How Many Bikes Do You Have

It may seem super obvious, but the number of bikes you need to store is among the most important things to consider when searching for bike storage. If you have just one bike, there are loads of single bike options to choose from. If you have multiple bikes, you can purchase and combine several single bike hooks, hangers, or stands, or choose from a variety of multi-bike racks. Many of the models we tested are sold as singles or in pairs, and some come in several configurations to accommodate different numbers of bikes.

Can I Store My Ebike On My Balcony

On average, you can store your eBike on your balcony. You will want to make sure your eBike is covered with a waterproof cover or parked in a bike tent.

Lets say, for example, you live in an apartment with a balcony. Unfortunately, many apartments do not have balconies, so this storage method will not be available to you on average. However, if you have a balcony, you may have enough space to store your eBike in a bike tent outside.

This storage method makes the most sense for apartment renters with balconies with smaller apartments. With this method, you do not have to worry about what little space you have obstructed by your electric bike.

Using a balcony to store your eBike can also save you from risking your security deposit. On the other hand, mounting your eBike on the wall may cause you to risk your security deposit.

    Uplift By Put Up Rack

    $455

I first learned about the Uplift hanging bike rack during my stay at the Bike Inn Bentonville. Each room has one of these racks and they are so sturdy and well-designed and they look good!

If youre planning on storing your bike inside your home or apartment and dont want the industrial look a lot of other bike stands have, this could be a good option.

Each Uplift rack holds one bike as well as two gear hooks and a shelf. The modular design allows you to move the elements around as you see fit.

    Best Plastic Sheds For 3

BEST garage/office space saving bicycle wall storage.

If you’ve got a bit more space or need to store more bikes, then these deeper plastic sheds with sliding roofs are definitely worth the upgrade as you’ll be able to wheel your bicycles straight into them!

The Suncast 6′ x 4′ Glidetop Storage Shed will allow you to store up to 4 adult bikes side by side for easy access. Read more about why I like the Suncast Glidetop on the plastic bike shed page!

The Suncast 6′ x 4′ Glidetop Shed: perfect for bicycles!

With a 28 x 28 mm thick frame, the Forest isnt as sturdy as the Power wooden sheds, below . But it features good quality, 12 mm shiplap cladding which is unusual on a cheaper bike shed.

The timber is FSC approved, pressure treated and guaranteed not to rot for 15 years. And with extra wide doors youll have no problems getting up to three bikes in and out.

Although, if you want to store anything else in there, 2 bikes is probably the limit, space wise.

The door hinges are hidden which is great for security. And while the hasp and staple that secures the door, doesnt come with a padlock, that gives you the chance to get something really decent to keep the thieves out!

Delivery is free for most of the UK. And if you get it from Buy Sheds Direct, they even offer an installation service.

It really is great value for money. In fact, for the price I dont think theres a better wooden bike shed currently available!

    Cheap Diy Outdoor Bike Storage

This DIY bike rack can be made in an afternoon and ready to use when the sun goes down and the street lights come on. Build it out of pressure treated lumber or cedar to keep it looking great even after multiple years of rain and snow.

The bonus space between the bikes is great for smaller riding toys or you could add storage tubs for helmets and knee pads and such.

    Space Required = Shed Size

You might think it’s a simple case of looking for sheds that match the measurements in these calculations.

But sheds are categorized by their exterior dimensions and the interior measurements can be significantly smaller, especially with plastic sheds where the walls can be quite thick.

So while the shed size in the title can give you a basic idea of how much space it contains, it’s wise to check the exact internal dimensions.

Don’t worry, I’ve already done this and compiled them into a nice table so you can compare the internal space available in a whole load of different sheds!

These should accommodate accessories such as water bottles, helmets, backpacks, and cycling shoes. Now, getting ready to go out for your next excursion is effortless since everything you need is within close range of the bikes.

Why Would I Want To Store A Bike On The Wall Or Hanging From The Ceiling

Pin de kusno utomo en bike storage

Having bikes all stacked horizontally on the floor, leaning on each other is not a good way to store them.

    • they will take up loads of floor space
    • you wont be able to get to the bikes at the back
    • the bikes will touch each other and get scratched or damaged
    • suspension forks dry out

Even if you have a floor mounted bike rack, where you push the front wheel into a slot or pair of hoops, you are likely to have problems with narrow tyres or wide tyres . Sometimes the brake disc or rear mech gets in the way too. And they use a huge amount of floor space.

Hanging your bikes on the wall will save loads of space in your shed or garage. If the bikes are light enough to lift off the ground then you can hang them high enough up on the wall to keep the floor clear.

Even if they are touching the floor, 4 or 5 bikes will only take up the same amount of floor space as 1 bike leaning against the wall.

Storing bikes vertically on the wall means

    • They take up much less floor space
    • they utilise un-used wall space
    • you can get to each bike without moving the others
    • each bike is held apart from the next so they dont get scratched or damaged
    • its better to store a bike with front suspension this way

    Topeak Dual Touch Bike Stand

    MSRP: $180

    Fits Wheels: 12 and larger

    Capacity: 2 bikes

Topeaks Dual-Touch Bike Stand is a sleek, minimalist design that keeps the focus on your bikes, not on a clunky rack. The concept is interesting, and quite simple: its a black anodized aluminum pole that is pressure-set between the floor and ceiling . No mounting hardware, and no damage to any walls required!

The Dual Touchs rack arms are highly adjustable to fit flat and sloping top tubes, and bikes sizes from kids to adults.

    Floor To Ceiling Columns

The most common free standing rack is the floor to ceiling column. These may not work with super high ceilings. But because they’re fixed between the floor and the ceiling they’re usually very stable.

Feedback Sports make a great floor to ceiling column which can support up to four bikes. It’s basically a spring loaded aluminium tubing system which wedges between the ceiling and the floor to create a completely stable bike storage solution.

    Feedback Sports Bike Column

The arms which cradle the bikes are infinitely adjustable so they should be able to fit any bike geometry. However you only get 2 with the column: if you want to store 4 bikes, you’ll need to buy the expansion pack.

Both ends of the column have soft rubber contact points to protect your floor and ceiling. And it’s adjustable to fit ceilings between 7-10 high.

Each cradle will support a bike that weighs up to 40 lbs so that’s 160 lb in total.

True: it’s not one of the cheapest option. But whether you have free wall space or not, the extra stability and unintrusive design make this bike storage idea definitely worth considering.

And if your ceiling is too high for the floor to ceiling column, Feedback Sports have a version with a stand at the bottom. It won’t quite be as stable but it should do the job OK.

Horizontal Bike Storage On The Wall

Best For: In-home storage, tight garages, or displaying bikes as art

On-wall horizontal bicycle storage secures a bike flat against a wall, taking up significant wall space, but very little space in the actual room. Because it takes up so much wall space, its not common for more than two bikes to be stored this way in the same room.

There are two different styles of horizontal bike storage a free standing horizontal wall stand that leans against the wall, and a wall-mounting version thats installed on the wall itself. Horizontal bike storage is very common for storing bikes indoors.

    PROS:

    • Can fit in most rooms in your house great for apartment dwellers
    • Generally easier to lift up and down than vertical storage
    • Come in free-standing or wall-mounting options
    • Great for displaying bikes
    • Some options can fit the smallest bikes even balance bikes

    CONS:

    • Take up a ton of wall space
    • Generally cant store too many bikes this way
    • Most only fit larger kids bikes
    • Can be difficult for kids to raise and lower bikes on their own
    • Bikes with wider handlebars are more problematic

5 DIY Bike Storage Options For Any Garage or Shed

There are several styles of bike storage on the market to choose from. Each style has its advantages and disadvantages, and we’ll touch on them all briefly below.

    Floor/Freestanding

Freestanding or floor racks are among the simplest of all. These racks rest on the floor of your storage space, can often be easily moved to various locations, and don’t require drilling holes into your walls. Bikes are typically easy to access, and you can usually roll them into and out of the rack with no lifting required. Most floor racks/stands support the bikes by the front or rear wheel and hold them horizontally, so they still take up a fair amount of floor space. The Feedback Sports RAKK, BirdRock Home 3 Bike, and Simple Houseware 5 Bike are examples of this kind of rack. The Bike Nook Bicycle Stand is a unique freestanding model that supports the bike vertically.

    Wall-Mount

Wall-mounted bike racks, hooks, and hangers are a good option for optimizing storage space. Wall-mount racks come in two basic styles that hold your bikes either vertically or horizontally. These racks typically require that you drill holes into your wall to mount them, and you will need to locate a stud for adequate support and have some tools to complete the task.

YardStash Bike Cover: best buy for US cyclists!

Its made from a 210D polyester shell. It has ventilation flaps to reduce condensation, holes to pass a bike lock through, bottom straps to anchor the cover to the bike, reflective strips and a handy carry bag.But there are also a couple of unique features that distinguish it from the competition and earn it the “best buy” prize!First of all, the top of the bike cover is coated with an additional, thicker layer of 600D polyester for extra water and UV protection.Secondly, although it officially comes with a 2 year warranty, their customer service policy states that if you ever have an issue with this item we will send you a replacement on us, no questions asked. And as far as Im concerned, you cant ask for more than that!I also liked the fact that there are drawstring tighteners at the bottom of the cover. These make getting it on and off your bike easier, and give you more control at the base.

The YardStash Bike Cover is packed with superior features!

The holes to pass a bike lock through are also protected with plastic rings, which won’t rust !

And finally, I also liked how the contrasting top layer and other markings make the cover easy to orientate while youre trying to pull it over your bike.

Best Bike Storage Solutions Available Today

The Hornit Clug has been around for a number of years and is often cited as one of the simplest ways to secure a bike to a wall. It’s a small cube that mounts where the front tyre meets your wall and secures the bike by taking advantage of the flex that tyres have. Push the wheel into the Clug and the tyre will distort to fit through a pinch point then hold the bike with the weight balanced on the rear wheel and the floor.

It’s one of those brilliantly elegant solutions that just works, but there was a problem: if your front tyre went flat, the bike could fall. The Hornit Clug Pro solves this with a cord that magnetically attaches through the wheel. The basic design remains the same but if the tyre loses air, the bike stays put. Because the weight of the bike balances on the floor, you can hold a lot of weight using a Clug. Keep in mind though that while an eBike will work, you do need to be able to lift the front up vertically. It’s also worth noting that the spot where your rear wheel touches the wall will get dirty. If that’s an issue you’ll want to grab the Clug mud pad to protect the wall.

The way the Steadyrack hangs a bike looks a little like the Clug but the two share very little besides the vertical wall orientation. The Steadyrack supports the full weight of the bike by cradling the front wheel and they include wall protection for the rear wheel. That arrangement does limit use with fenders but there’s an available variation of the design if that’s a need.
