Installing A Car Lift
The safety of your lift doesn’t just depend on the lift itself and your use of it — proper installation in your home garage is also a huge factor. When it comes to a piece of machinery as large and powerful as a car lift, there are several factors that dictate safe installation.
One of the main questions that people have when it comes to installing a garage car lift is just how much clearance space they need — in other words, how high should the ceiling of the garage be? Like with anything else, the answer depends on your needs and personal situation. But that’s a good thing. As North American Auto Equipment explains, it’s very rare that we get to choose the specifications of our garages, so knowing that there’s a host of lifts that can accommodate your restrictions is comforting. Sure, you may not have the room for a four-post lift underneath which you can park another car, but you can still get a lift that offers us plenty of benefits, even if you have a small garage.
Ceiling height and concrete integrity are a couple of big factors to consider when installing a home garage car lift.
Just a note: If you have limited garage space, you may be considering installing a lift in your driveway or in another outdoor location. This is not recommended, as your lift will then be exposed to temperatures and weather elements for which it isn’t designed. Some lifts’ warranties will be voided if they’re installed outside.

Bendpak Redesigns Maxjax Portable Two
BendPak says the MaxJax M6K can be used in areas with ceilings as low as eight feet and can be put away when the work is done.
BendPak Inc. is rolling out the new MaxJax M6K portable two-post lift with design, engineering and production improvements.
Like all two-post lifts, MaxJax provides clear undercarriage access and the ability to perform brake and tire work on a wide range of vehicles. But unlike traditional two-post lifts, the MaxJax can be used in areas with ceilings as low as eight feet and can be put away when the work is done, leaving the garage bay clear.
BendPak added two additional safety lock positions to the columns, for a total of seven. The locks engage continuously during upward rise and act as a redundant fail-safe feature capable of holding an elevated vehicle securely, even if the quick-connect hoses are disconnected or a hydraulic malfunction occurs, the company says. Engineers also reconfigured the UHMW slide block bearings in the lift posts to maintain the carriage and hydraulic cylinder in a true vertical position at all times and reduce bearing load for smoother operation.
BendPak adds the new MaxJax M6K was independently tested and is ALI Certified to meet the current lift industry safety and performance standard.
With a new optional motorcycle adapter that offers a wider lifting platform and drive-over approach ramp, MaxJax can also lift motorcycles, ATVs or other motorized vehicles.

The Essentials Of Car Lifts

Car lifts are used to raise vehicles into the air so you can get underneath to work on them. Though auto shops commonly use car lifts to service vehicles, vehicle owners can install them in their home garages.
You can even use them to store cars vertically or store one vehicle for long periods with the weight lifted off the tires.
Car lifts come in scissor, two-post, and four-post styles. Its crucial to choose the right one for your needs and use it properly for your vehicles. If you dont, you run the risk of severely damaging your car and hurting yourself.
You also need to ensure youre using one that can handle your vehicles weight. For example, pickup trucks need heavy-duty equipment because they weigh more than a standard passenger car.

Each garage has storage challenges that are as varied and unique as the families who use them. Big box store storage solutions, like modular shelving and cabinets, are designed to fit typical storage spaces. Unfortunately, off-the-shelf solutions dont always work for challenging spaces in a garage. Tight spaces, irregularly-shaped spaces, recessed walls, wall obstructions, tall spaces and unattractive spaces all create special challenges that are best remedied using made-to-measure solutions.Garage Tailors

Car Lifts For Home Garage Buying Guide
When looking for a car lift for your home garage space, there are a few factors to take into consideration, particularly when it comes to safety.
If your garage space is limited, the larger industrial-grade two-post lifts or four-post car lifts probably wont fit, and, if they do, will take up all the floor space in your garage. If your space is a little roomier, you may be able to get one of these heavy-duty lifts in there.
Taking into consideration the size of the power unit, the length, and the width is the first step in seeing if the particular vehicle lifting unit works for you. If it doesnt, and your space is limited, car ramp lifts, scissor lifts, or more portable, low rise or mid-rise lifts are a better option.
In addition, the weight of the vehicle you need to lift will play a role in your selection process since each vehicle lift has a maximum weight capacity, so you want to make sure that the car lift you choose can actually lift your vehicle. For larger cars, trucks, and SUVs, a heavy-duty, large pound-capacity car lift, for instance, one that can lift a vehicle of 9,000 pounds or more, will be required.
Last but certainly not least, is taking note of the safety features each vehicle lift offers. Automatic safety locks, safety lock release, a lock bar, arms restraints, hydraulic flow restrictor, anti-sway blocks, and cable chains are all great safety features to look for.

Five Things You Need To Know Before You Buy And Use A Home Garage Car Lift

- Why are you considering buying a car lift for your garage? Factors like wanting to park cars on top of one another or wanting easier access to your car’s chassis will ultimately affect what kind of lift you need.
- What kind of car lift do you want? Again, your reasons for buying a lift will point you in a certain direction, but criteria like cost and lifting capacity will also help you decide between a four-post lift, a two-post lift, a scissor lift or a different kind altogether.
- Can your garage floor accommodate a car lift? Check to make sure that your garage floor consists of enough solid inches of PSI 3,000 concrete to support your lift of choice. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to have new concrete poured.
- Who is going to install your home garage lift? It’s highly recommended that you have an experienced professional perform the job, as it can be difficult and dangerous. Find an installation expert whom you trust — one with experience installing car lifts.
- Finally, and most importantly, what are the operating instructions associated with your car lift? Make sure to familiarize yourself with all of them in order to minimize the risk of property damage or injury.
