How Much Does The Foundation Cost For A 1220 Shed
Foundation costs depend primarily on the type of foundation and whether or not you need to hire professionals for installation.
Hiring a contractor is the easiest way of ensuring that your 12×20 shed plans are brought to life as you imagined them, and this will also save time on research and legwork!
If youre interested in constructing a gravel shed foundation yourself, this guide gives an excellent step-by-step overview of how to do that.
Here are some of the most popular 12×20 shed foundation options:
Blocks The cheapest option, but also the least durable.
Gravel Strikes a nice balance of affordability, durability, and ease-of-installation.
Concrete The most durable and the most expensive option concrete foundations are best for sheds that are built on-site and dont include a built-in wood floor.
Important Features Of Your 1220 Shed Plan
Depending on your needs for storage space, youll want to take note of the most important features that each shed plan offers. Here are some important questions to consider:
How much room do I have in my backyard?
Do I have any restrictions from local ordinances or homeowners associations? What is my budget?
What is the weather like where I live? Do I need to pay extra attention to waterproofing or insulation features in my shed plan?
Do I want a design that will stand out from other buildings on my property, or blend into the natural landscape around it?
How much time do I have for construction? Do I need something that will work for a do-it-yourself project?
Are there any other features I would like to add to my 12×20 shed plan, such as: garage doors, windows, or sliding doors? Do I want a 12×20 shed with loft?
What size and style of the door should be included in the design plans for my 12×20 shed? What specific tools will I need to build my 12×20 shed?
Is there anything else I need to consider for the project, such as safety equipment or job site storage bins?
How long do I expect this process to take me? What level of experience do I have at building projects like these?

Why Get A 1220 Storage Shed
A 12×20 storage shed provides you with 240 square feet which is enough to have 2-3 lawn care machines and also space to have a workbench or a loft! The 12×20 shed is a great option if you are looking for a medium-sized storage building without breaking the bank. If you need a shed larger than 12×20, a 12×30 shed is a great option!
Choosing Between Storage Solutions
You might be wondering: Why should I opt for a storage shed versus a storage unit? There are various benefits to choosing a storage shed above a storage unit. From cost considerations to security measures, the choice you make will largely depend on your current circumstances, along with what youre planning to store.
- When should I use a storage unit?
A storage unit can be a convenient, short-term storage solution. If privately owned outdoor space is not available to you, then you might turn to a storage unit for a quick and temporary fix. Storage units are commonly used among those downsizing from larger living spaces to smaller ones. Or, most often, those who are moving from one apartment to another might turn to a storage unit as a way to house some of their less-crucial belongings until they settle in.
- Why are storage sheds better?
The truth is that storage sheds are ultimately more cost-effective, secure, and efficient than renting out a storage unit. If you are looking for long-term storage, then a storage shed is the only way to go. In the long run, it will cost you less money than renting a storage unit for an extended period of time. Also, the ability to keep it on your property results in better safety and protection for your belongings.
The average cost to rent a storage unit is some $190/mo. With our zero-down financing and rent-to-own programs, you can acquire a similar deal on a storage structure of your own.

Four walls are sturdy and sealed with only one entrance. The shed will become a dry and warm storage place to accommodate seeds and your garden tools during the cold months.

Dormer Roof Shed Plan
This plan improves the traditional shed with a loft with dormer windows.
The idea of the loft is for extra storage space of 4×8 feet in the roof. Thats why there are small windows that can be opened to get more light.
This process to make the loft is rather complicated.
You need to make sure how much weight to handle within the loft and assemble joists that are durable enough. The plan uses 14 2×6 joists of 12 feet and six 2×6 joists of eight feet.
In addition, it requires two roof pitches: One 10/12 inches rise for the standard roof and another 4/12 dormer roof to cover the lofts windows.

Shed Plan With Gable Roof
Although sheds now come with different roof styles, We still prefer the traditional gable roof. It is easy to build.
You will need to pick up a suitable roof pitch among three options: 3:12, 4:12, and 5:12 at this guide. For me, the 5:12 pitch would be the best. The roof is high-sloping, so water or snow cannot easily find its way down through the roof sheeting.

Gambrel Barn Shed Plans
The plan utilizes gambrel-style roof rafters to hold up a multi-pitched roof. This roof will give you extra 300 square feet of the loft area.
However, the roof is somehow still hard to build. You had better consult a local structural engineer.
Other parts such as walls, floor, and foundations are similar to standard shed plans. However, you must use thick lumbers so that the lower part is strong enough to support the heavy gambrel roof.
The shed comes with two doors. Several standard windows of 2-6 are also recommended to streamline fresh air in and out. Also, you can add any other windows on the wall if you want.

Building A 1216 Shed With Garage Door
Fist of all, you need to frame the floor. Cut the joists at the right dimensions and smooth the edges with sandpaper. Align the edges flush and then lock them together with 3 1/2 screws. Drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert the screws into the perpendicular components. You can use 2×6 or 2×8 lumber for the joists, according to the weight you are going to put on the floor.
Attach the 4×4 skids to the floor frame of the shed. Drill pilot holes through the joists and insert 3 1/2 screws into the skids. Place the skids equally spaced, so they can support the weight of the shed evenly.
Attach the 3/4 plywood sheets to the floor frame. Align the edges flush, drill pilot holes and insert 1 5/8 screws to secure the sheets into place.
Build the wall frames for the 12×16 shed with garage door from 2×4 lumber. Cut the components at the right dimensions. Drill pilot holes through the top plates and insert 3 1/2 screws into the studs. Place the studs every 24 on center, for a professional result.
Frame the side wall with door for the shed by using the information from the diagram. As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to frame the door opening properly, so the frame is rigid enough. Needless to say that you can adjust the door opening to suit your needs.
